How it works
Room area divided by the area of one tile gives the tile count. Add 5–10% for cutting and breakage; diagonal laying or many corners need 10–15%.
Common tile sizes in India
- 300 × 300 mm (1 × 1 ft): bathrooms, balconies
- 300 × 450 mm: kitchen and bathroom walls
- 600 × 600 mm (2 × 2 ft): the most common floor tile
- 800 × 800 mm and 600 × 1200 mm: living rooms and large spaces
Frequently asked questions
How many 2×2 tiles for a 12×10 room?
A 600 × 600 mm tile covers 3.875 sq ft, so 120 sq ft needs 31 tiles, or 34 with 8% wastage: 9 boxes of 4.
Should I buy extra tiles?
Yes. Keep a few spare from the same batch, because shade varies between batches and repairs are hard to match later.
How many tiles are in a box?
Commonly 4 for 600 × 600 mm, 10 for 300 × 300 mm, and 2 for 600 × 1200 mm. Check the box label.
